Why did Nowye join the missionaries?
In chapter 17 the missionaries come into the village Okonkwo and his family are living in. Nwoye is captivated by the missionaries and their religion. After being seen by his father's cousin Amikwu in the church, worshiping with the Christians, Nowye leaves his father and his beliefs to join the missionaries. What do you think contributed to his decision? I believe that it was an escape for him from his father's strict rules and harsh punishments. Do you also think that it could be a result of being mothered to much?

I believe that part of Nwoye decision had to do with leaving the strict manner of his father. A part of the book where Okonkwo is telling a story with killing and harshness, Nwoye is seen as a person that does not like those kind of stories. He prefers stories such as the ones his mother tells. I believe that the other half of Nwoye's decision had to do that these new missionaries actually caight his attention and he was interested in knowing more about it.

I agree with both Johanna, Aurdrey, and Shirleka because I think Nwoye joined the missionary because he was a gentler person than his father wanted him to be so he could no longer stand what his father thought and wanted to do his own thing and join the missionary. Nwoye was also interested in the missionary because he had never seen it before and it was something new unlike what he was use to.

I agree with Shirtondra because I also find that one reason he liked the missionaries is because it was something he had never seen before. Since Nwoye was just a kid he was interested in the many things that could be found in the world. I also think that he was influenced by the actions that Okonkwo took, like how Okonkwo's life was influenced by the actions that his father took

I think Nowye's father's attitude towards life contributed to his decision. I don't think his decision had to do with his mother.
I agree with Johanna, in the book he prefers stories like the ones his mother tells. He probably wanted to escape his father's harsh rules and saw the missionaries/the church as a safe haven.

Nwoye's decision to join the Christians was swayed by his attempt to escape Okonkwo's aggressive influence.
Okonkwo's vicarious life through Nwoye turned Nwoye into something that he did not want to be. In an attempt to take back his life, he rebelled against his father by joining the church.

I think the reason Nwoye joined in with the missionaries is because he didn't like how his father kept being too tough. I also think it's because his father got kicked out of Umoufia.

I agree that Nwoye joined the missionaries in an effort to escape his father's strict discipline, and because he wanted to experience new things. I also think that Ikemefuna's death contributed greatly to Nwoye's decisioni to convert. I think he was dissatisfied with the way his people had dealt with Ikemefuna's situation, and he thought he might be able to find answers to many of the questions troubling him through Christianity.
