Was it right or wrong?
In chapter 4, Okonkwo beat his third wife, Ojiugo, during the "Week of Peace". Do you think he was right to do this, or do you disagree with his decision? Okonkwo was aware of the sacred week, but when he realized that Ojiugo wasn't home, he lost his temper. Was it a good enough reason to disobey the rules of that week? Even if it wasn't the "Week of peace", did he have the right to beat his wife for not being home to feed him supper? We agree with Ezani, the priest of the earth goddess, when he said that Okonkwo "committed a great evil". He should not have beaten her in the first place.

At first when i read that he beat his wife, I felt it was okay. When the chapter ended i felt different. I thought well it was the week of peace and she should be able to get her hair done. Even if she had not made dinner for him.

I believe that Okonkwo went out of proportion when he beat his wife Ojiugo. A woman should be able to get her hair done. I would understand somewhat if he beat her if it wasn't the week of peace, but since it was he should have gone easy on her. The fact that he did not have dinner when he came home is not a good reason to disobey the rules of that week.

I agree with both Michael and Barbara when they talk about it being the week of peace and she should've been able to pamper herself. I think the entire situation was uncalled for.

I do not believe that it was okay for Oknokwo to disobey the week of peace and beat his wife. If it hadn'y been the weeqk of peace it would have probaly been more acceptable 2 the priest. I agree with barbra and michael when they say that his actions were uncalled for and that he was wrong for what he did

I do not think that Okonkwo should have beaten his third wife during the week of peace. What is the point of having a week of peace when somebody is not being peaceful at all?

I disagree with his decision because it was a religious week, which makes his actions even worse. I see that in his village it is a tolerable thing to do,except on the peace week, but it still does not give him enough reason to beat his wife for not having dinner ready. He needs to be more patient from now on.

Owkwonko beating his wife was ok, taking their culture into consideration, because most likely it wasn't too big big of a deal as it is today in our culture. But considering that it was their tribe's week of peace, where their was supposed to be peace the whole week, i think it was wrong of him to beat his wife and commiting "a great evil."
